"Relative" just picked the name we were going to use?
So were due our baby in October and decided on Sam if it is a boy
My brother and his wife became uncle and aunt last week as her sister have birth to a boy. It's been a week and they've still not named him officially but we've been told he'll likely be called.... Sam!
We had struggled so hard to pick a boys name and although they won't be blood related I feel it would be a bit awkward naming a new family baby the same name so close together
What do you think?

Use it anyway. My grandmother had two grandchildren named Elizabeth. One went by Eliza one went by Beth.

Did they know you had it picked? Maybe you could tell them. Or just name him Sam regardless. Its a cute name. Although if they do name him Sam and you hear that name over and over before October you may decide you dont like it. That happened to me 2x and after hearing the names time and time again I thought "thank god I didn't pick that name"

Doesn't matter if you want to name your baby Sam then name him Sam. I've been wanting to name my 2nd kid Noah since I was 16.. And my uncles wife is due in 3 months and im due in 6 months(2nd child) they had the name Ahmed picked out then when I told them I was sticking to the name I've always wanted which is Noah, she straight away changed her baby name to Noah, when I told her that's what I was naming my baby, she told me "well, I'm due before you and I love that name" when she knew I've always wanted it..
So doesnt matter if they took your name if that's the name you wanted first you shouldn't have to change it

That really sucks but, honestly, I know 500 Sam's (boys and girls) so maybe choosing something else will help ur son stand out more :)
I love Jack and Henry for boys bc they are classic while still being not super common :)

Sam is such a common name, although I will admit it's a nice name. Choose something else, look on a baby name website. :)

Why not go with Samuel? Its much better than Sam and you can nickname him Sam. Samuel is twice as better and more sophisticated and masculine.

Stick to your choice. There are millions of Sams in the world. It doesn't detract from your choice at all.
