Does anyone know if these are on the market yet?

"The Canadian military has been secretly test-driving a $620,000 stealth snowmobile in its quest to quietly whisk troops on clandestine operations in the Arctic.

The Canadian Press has learned that soldiers have taken the new hybrid-electric snowmobile prototype on trial runs to evaluate features such as speed, noise level, battery endurance and acceleration.

In one test, military personnel used sound-meter readings to compare the prototype's noise performance against two gas-powered snowmobiles.

Another trial saw the machine driven at a steady speed on a mix of flat terrain and hilly snow-covered roads until batteries died.

Soldiers wielding a radar gun also tested the stealth snowmobile's acceleration as it raced 100 metres down a flat, snow-packed track."

I WANT ONE !!!

I'd love to cruise around the neighborhood without disturbing my neighbors, and just think how quick I could finish my paper route!

Are the 2014 models in the showroom yet... Anyone know of any dealerships that have it?

Update:

And yuuus I know this is the Travel section, just think of the kilometres you could travel with this puppy strapped on!

Serious answers only please, because that's how I roll.

Well, or skidoo as the case may be.

[forgive me, we needed a break from Royal irritants, yes?]

Update 2:

@ Randy - It's like the Canadian military's camo; we don't have a small military, the majority just cannot be seen. Respects Sir :)

@ eldots Truth be told I'm a Vancouverite. What happens after 11 months of rainfall in Vancouver? It's summer!

@ capitalgentleman: The fact you're a Ranger impresses the socks AND mukluks off me!

@ Karen: It IS an awesome paper route thank you kindly :) Lots of apartment igloos which makes it easier.

*chuckles*

Thanks all for your lightheartedness :))

Update 3:

@ Kessie Ah but i DO need one! The snow lasted a whole two days last year. brrrrrrr! I tried putting skis on my riding mower, lacking in the stealth department though judging by the tickets I received.

Update 4:

@ Micheal: Check this out!

It's a military equipment. I doubt it's going to be on the market soon, especially since it's, you know, military technology.

I read that article too - and I thought wasting $620,000 on a stealth snowmobile is utter bull. All you need are some well-trained white huskies, a white sled, and white clothing to get through the Arctic "stealthily." Oh, and lots of dog food.

Plus, a "stealth snowmobile" is hardly the most James Bond-esque thing ever.

On the other hand... I can finally brag to my friends about something cool:

    Friend 1: "I have a car!"

    Friend 2: "Yeah? I have a jacuzzi!"

Me: "Yeah? I have a military stealth snowmobile!"

PS, you live in Vancouver. I doubt you'd need a snowmobile... ever :P

I am a Canadian Ranger, and I definitely passed this info on to my Sergeant. I think we'd all want one!

But, Rangers, even though we are military, have to provide our own equipment - including snowmobiles. $600,000 is just a bit much to handle on the $100 a day we get being a Ranger, and then only on our annual patrol of about 10 days. You'd need 600 years to pay it off!

While I know a chap in Dawson City who has an electric truck, and the City of Whitehorse is experimenting with electric vehicles, batteries are notoriously difficult to keep working in the extreme cold. The guys with 4-strokes have trouble starting sometimes (no pull starts for them), thanks to the batteries dying. If the fancy machine can run for 2 weeks, and start at -50C - then it might be useful.

Surrrrre they are. All you have to do is have the proper authorization to get one. ....

That'd have to be one seriously lucrative paper route to justify such a pricey vehicle. Whaddya drive in the summer? Lamborgini? You do HAVE summer up yonder; right?

    ____

Edit: well, since you have a superfluity of rain, I think the snowmobile is entirely the wrong approach. I think you should be encouraging them to develop something that allows you to slide like a giant slug. It would be much more appropriate, if a little on the slow side.

Needful, now I am really pee'd. I have been asking for my car to be replaced for over a year. Yet the military clowns can go playing on $620K machines, so I guess these things are going to replace the so called F35's.

I didn't hear about this little scam, we don't get to hear much over here Needful. I suppose this is one of those Bombardier secret contracts?

Ahhhhh so that is your game plan, like me, your sick and tired of those monarchy questions, and the EricS questions when he forgets to take his meds.....................lolol

Well Needfull I guess after 11 months of rain, you don't need skids, you need floaters..............lolol

Here we are, can't get decent portable accommodation, we would be happy with a portable site shed, every time, the wind blows the wrong way, we smell the camel and goat pens, and these Military jokers go joy riding on $620k machines.........................

Thanks for this info. Needfuf, Looks like we may have to put a hot branding iron under the butts of our Union officials.

They are too stealthy. I looked in the showroom and on their website plus I asked around work and nobody has seen them yet. All that tells me is they must be good. Or they better be for that price.

Then again, 20 year old Bombardier's with a polar bear skin rug thrown over them could work too.

    I want one tooooooo.

They will not be available to the general public.

Only way you could use one would be to become a Canadian Ranger.

Source(s): There are many military only vehicles I want.

Nope, sorry, haven't seen any yet. That must be one heck of a paper route if you can justify buying one of those to do it with. But I think I'd like one of their batteries for my rechargeable lawnmower.
