Does running lean mean better performance?

I've been looking at a few forums and some people stated that if a bike is running a little lean, it will have slightly better performance than one running normal or rich. Supposedly they run track bikes lean? Is this true? Just wondering..

no idea where that get that from. a dynamometer is used to test true engine power outputs and lean fuelling gives increased heat, less power and possible engine and component failures. eg valves, pistons.

running rich is simply poor power and emissions with increased carbon etc.

very much doubt a track bike is run lean as such. for max power best air fuel ration with good scavenging and injection /timing /cam etc is used.

so only performance factor we can say IS improved will be gas mileage.

There is a fine line between producing a hotter burn from a lean condition and burning your engine up .

A little rich runs cooler , a little lean runs hotter , too lean and you shorten your engine life .

Running an engine lean is not a good thing. It can cause pre detonation which can kill an engine. I don't think your going to get better performance running an engine lean. I do know your going to shorten it's life.

    Hello

Normally running lean means less power but more MPG.

The ideal fuel to air ratio for maximum performance is about 15:1. Any leaner or richer will result in loss of performance.

Put a hole in the piston from getting to hot when you run lean.

If something is running lean then its not getting enough fuel....surely this would mean less performance.

Nooooo!. Quite the reverse actually, and it will tend to overheat.
