Can you really get addicted to 8mg Co-Codamol tablets?

This over-the-counter, non-prescription drug comes with a warning of possible addiction, and a 3-day use only direction. Are these just precautionary warnings, just to be safe? Can you really get addicted to these pills if you take them for more than 3 days? Thanks

You could become addicted because the drug contains codeine. Even though the over-the-counter pills have a very small amount of the drug, if you take it other than as directed, you could end up being addicted to it. In the UK, the rates of addiction to Co-codamol are on the rise.

In Australia, you cannot even get it over the counter. I would adhere to the advice on the package and only take it as directed. Do not take these types of drugs with alcohol either as they could seriously impair your liver and other organs.

Yes that's why the warning is on the packet. You will not get addicted after a few days but if you continued to use them for longer then you could. The stronger tablets with 30mg of Codeine are only allowed on prescription and have to be monitored by the GP.

Codeine is very addictive and not recommended for long term use.

Yes, because it contains codeine, which is an opiate (the same family as heroine). It can be highly addictive so you don't want to get into the habit of taking it.

The authorities in the UK are very careful about overuse of medication because it can cause other health issues. That's why in the UK you have to have a prescription for things like antibiotics, that you can buy over the counter in other countries.
