Wireless apple keyboard won't work?

So my keyboard for my mac went out of battery yesterday, so I changed it and it worked fine. But I went on my mac again just now and it won't work; it's blinking like it's in discoverable mode but after a few seconds it stops. Also, I can't get onto my profile because it is password-protected and guest only lets me use Safari.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to answer your question.

First thing, ANY USB keyboard will work with your Mac. So if you have any keyboard lying around with USB you can use it to log into your Mac.

Once you are able to log in. Go to the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar at the top right of the screen.

    Click 'Open Bluetooth Preferences'

Highlight (make blue) the wireless keyboard

Then click the (-) button, which will delete the keyboard from the Bluetooth preferences.

    Close this window.

Go to the Bluetooth icon in the top right again.

    Click 'Set Up Bluetooth Device'

If your keyboard does not appear in the new window that opens. Hold the power button on the keyboard until it turns off completely. Then after a few seconds turn it back on. It should be blinking.

Then see if it appears back in the set up window.

Once it appears click on it and go thru the steps to re-pair the keyboard with the Mac.

If the keyboard does not appear in the set up window you could have a defective keyboard.

If the computer or keyboard is within the one year AppleCare warranty period you can make an appt at the Apple Genius Bar to have the keyboard tested and/or replaced.

Good luck. Nothing worse than not being able to use your Mac.

Any other questions feel free to amend your question.

    Thank you in advance.
