Removing details from a log book?

Hi, bought myself a first car. However, it's only ever had one owner and she passed away a few years ago. The car was given to her son, but he never sent off the log book as he hardly used it, being away in the army. He filled in the log-book with his details though, so I was wondering is it fine to tip-ex the words out in the boxes and then input my details? OR is it better to get a replacement sheet, and if so, would I go to the post-office to apply for one or phone the DVLA? Thank You.

No tippex will invalidate the V5C

Get form V62 from a post office or download it to apply for the V5C in your name - it will take some time as the DVLA will have to get the people dealing with the deceased estate to sort it.

If the logbook is in the name of someone who has passed away, best phone DVLA, as the registered keeper needs to sign it.If it is signed by registered keeper, but not dated, then i would correct any other errors.Whom ever sold you the car should have sorted that mess out with DVLA.

You cant errase anything held on dvla database about a vehicle, even if incorrect at time of 1st registration.

If the son didn't send the paperwork off DVLA will work on the basis that you have bought the car from the estate of the deceased person - and there are special rules about that.

    https://www.gov.uk/tell-dvla-about-bereavement/sel...

As the person who sold it to you has not followed the rules you are going to have to contact DVLA, explain what has happened, and ask what to do. You may have to go back to the seller, and get him to provide you with the necessary statement about his mother's death, as DVLA may not register it in your name without that evidence.

It does not matter how many owners a car had previously, as long as it has been taken care of.

Isn't it better to have 2 loving owners who cared before you.

What is important is the present mechanical condition of the car.

Erasing one name from the log indicates that you are attempting to hide something.

    Regards.

One should never forge any government document, if a log book for a car is an official document. Most on this forum live in the US and I for one have never heard of a log book for a car. Please give more details.
