Magic The Gathering: Flames of the Firebrand?

Wizards' ruling on Flames of the Firebrand states:

You divide the damage as you cast Flames of the Firebrand, not as it resolves. Each target must be assigned at least 1 damage. (In other words, as you put the spell on the stack, you choose whether to have it deal 3 damage to a single target, 2 damage to one target and 1 damage to another target, or 1 damage to each of three targets.)

You can't deal damage to both a player and a planeswalker controlled by that player with Flames of the Firebrand.

No. When you divide something amongst multiple targets, each target must receive at least 1 of whatever is being divided:

601.2d. If the spell requires the player to divide or distribute an effect (such as damage or counters) among one or more targets, the player announces the division. Each of these targets must receive at least one of whatever is being divided.

You can't choose targets and then not have the spell deal damage to them. So you can deal 1 damage to three creatures, two damage to one and one damage to another creature, or three damage to one creature.
