Dump Valve / BOV sound without one installed?

Just a curios question...

I've got a stock 1993 Kia Pride 1.1L, all it has is a cherry bomb back-box. I got a friend to record me going past as I wanted to know what it sounded like outside, whether it be to loud or not. Near the start of the video, I took off in 1st gear and when I changed to 2nd I noticed a dump valve / blow off valve kind of sound. I was just curious, why did it do this? Is it because I went into high RPM's? I've never noticed it before, or heard it, but then again I dont usually go high RPM's in 1st gear. The car is carburettor'd, only has 30k miles on. Any Ideas? Thanks.

I was also thinking vacuum leak, as the idle isn't great, it's a bit lumpy at times. Thanks for that suggestion.

    It was likely a vacuum leak somewhere, and when you let off the throttle you heard the psst of it sucking air through a cracked hose.

    I'm guessing its just induction noise which stopped when you changed gear which gave the illusion of the pshh sound
