rat poison gone... what now?

we seam to have a rat infestation going on under the house.... there is a small tunnel from our garden going under the house. a man came out yesterday from the council and put 5 blocks of poison into the hole, said he would be back next week to check on the poison... but told me to watch it because if they die under the house.... there is guna be an awful stink and alot of flys. so now im freaked out!! he told me to contact my landlord about this because its a private rent and he cant do anymore for me. so i checked this morning... all the poison is gone! so im guessing the rats dragged it under the house to feast on..... iv recently found out its down to me to sort this mess out not my landlord!! who seams to have vanished off the face of the earth anyways. so what do i do now???? i called up a company for pest control and he said if we start ripping up floor boards the rats will run off into the walls and make the problem worse... he said they might not stink the house out. a man with many years experience is telling me dead rats are not going to smell.... how is that??

seriously what do i do now?

If you were putting the poison down yourself (which you could have simply done) once it has all been eaten you put more down and keep doing it until it stops being eaten. They go off to die in the nest and it may not be under your house as it could quite simply be a rat run.

You will not notice anything or any smell so just relax and try not to think about it.

It is no big deal and they say we are never more than six feet from a rat this time of the year.

Our row of houses had problems with rats going along the gardens.

we contacted our local council who came out to put down some kind of rat poison,

they came out several times over the weeks, putting down the poison until it wasn't being eaten anymore because the rats were dead

so if he is coming back next week, then he is doing the same.

I live in a private house, not a council owned house, but you are still paying your council tax whatever you live in.

my council don't charge for coming out to exterminate rats,

so ring yours and ask about charges, if you do have to pay then it may be cheaper than a company.

Leaved Your Landlord a message informing Him of Your problem and that You are planning to bring in a Licensed Exterminator to handle the problem and that He will be getting the bill. Easiest way to get His attention is to not pay the rent for a few day's.

let them rot under there, you wont smell it anyhow. you have a floor between you don't you? if a rat died outside would you smell it? and they can get into any walls, unless they've already burrowed a hole up thru the bottom plates of the studs, and floors. so, put more rat poison out and keep up the god work!! good luck!
