Depends on your goals! Can I assume you don't want to look like a girl and simply enjoys the benefits a skirt offers? Remember this... men have worn skirts far longer than women throughout time so it is nothing new. A skirt makes more sense for a male to wear than a female due to anatomy alone (no freeking crotch seams... is a big deal guys)! A short skirt provides the ultimate freedom of movement of any clothing period! Cooler on a hot day than anything else you can wear.

Personal favorite any guy can easily get away with is a "Cargo Mini Skrt". These have belt loops, plain or camo in color, lots of useful pockets and often made with heavy materials. Womens skirts fit men without modifications just fine so that is not an issue. YOU need to determine your goals sine there must be 10,000 styles of skirts (Kilts are just one of them and yes a kilt IS a skirt by definition so call it what it is...a skirt).

Try search www.ebay.com for "Cargo Skirt" or Utility Skirt, Carpenter skirt but there are many other. For the beach search for a Board Skirt or Surf Skirt. All useful for guys just some more than others but you will know when you see them.

This is a drop waist dress. They're really fun and feminine.

This is a romper. Its shorts and a top connected, but they're really comfortable to wear and it can be made casual or formal. There's also rompers that are full length pants, and those look really good on tall people.

Sun dresses are normally lightweight material and have thin straps. They come in lots of different lengths though so you could choose what's best for your body and how much skin you feel comfortable showing.

Circle skirts are really popular right now. They fall really nicely and they too come in lots of different lengths.

Skirt and dress lengths are generally referred to as mini,midi, or maxi. Mini means that it ends mid thigh or shorter. Midi normally cuts off right under the knee. And maxi is ankle/full length.

It will depend on the weather for me really. Inside the fall I love to wear longer skirts and in the winter I wear longer ones with my boots, but in the spring and summer I favor to wear short summer dresses.
