A = B + 4, where A is the number of quesitons in part A, and B represents number of questions in B.

Now the points available from part a are A*7, and the points from part B are B*11.

    Add these and set to 100: A*7 + B*11 = 100, but remember that A = B + 4, so now we have:

    (B + 4)*7 + B*11 = 100. Multiply 7 times each term in parenthesis: B*7 + 4*7 + B*11 = 100.

    combine the two B terms and multiply the 4*7: B*18 + 28 = 100

    Subtract 28 from both sides: B*18 = 72.

    Divide by 18: B = 4. And then A = B + 4 = 8.

    so we have section A is 8 questions, 7 points ea: 8*7 = 56.

Section B is 4 questions, 11 pts each: 4*11 = 44. Add them together and you get 100 points.
