Greens or UKIP?

Why do people see the greens as a single issue party when environmental issues are some of the most important facing our country and actually encompass a lot more than just a tree-hugging philosophy, a green economy would create jobs! Going green isn't a single issue- it would actually benefit everyone. Studies show improved access to green spaces improves health.

Whereas UKIP could be accused of being single issue with regards to the EU and immigration, I totally understand not wanting to vote for the main parties but I'm just intrigued as to why UKIP count as a protest vote and the greens don't, considering Caroline Lucas' action to stop fracking (I would argue that demonstrates a lot of passion as it risked her career). I think the Greens are under-rated as a protest vote.

I'm not saying UKIP are single issue but I don't support their other policies which I'm not sure a lot of their fans are aware of- repealing the hunting ban, for instance, and opposing wind farms as well as not believing in man-made climate change.

So yeah I'm not slagging off UKIP, I don't agree with them but what makes them so much better than the Greens as a protest party? Just wondering.

Thanks!

As a UKIPPER, I respect your statement, and believe you are right on some of those issues to a certain extent. It's a tricky choice for me too, as I'm not actually pro fracking, but UKIP are unfortunately..... Just shows I'm not in agreement with everything they do. I would like to see just 'some' fracking though, perhaps where it's safe to do so - but where is it safe to do so? Also as a UKIPPER I am not totally against wind and solar but UKIP are generally dad against it, it's just that wind and solar is not really that good, and will not fill all our countries needs. I live in an area that's got loads of this, and most of the time the windmills do not turn, it just seems a waste of time, and a huge loss to the scenery and wildlife. Today, it's too bloomin windy, so they aren't turning, yesterday it weren't windy enough.... again they didn't turn!! What we need is a good balance of energy policy, some renewables, some fossil fuels, some nuclear and some fracking, so that there is always enough storage or backup power when the weather isn't right conditions.

Caroline Lucus does seem to be a genuine person with genuine concerns I agree, and I am sure that she means well, but green energy adds to all our woes, and we all pay a green tax on energy bills now. She is very anti car, so guess what, they shut all the factory work places over the last 40 odd years and we ALL mostly have to travel miles more to work now, and cars are the only choice in my area where they stopped all the busses! The whole mentality is geared around the need to get to work and back home, as cheaply and as efficiently as we can. We don't want to pay green taxes.

Perhaps the Green Party will eventually become more and more important as resources start to dwindle, but most consider green issues very low down on their agenda at the present. All the parties support recycling now and other green issues to a more or lesser degree than Lucas's party anyway. It kind of renders her a little bit pointless in many ways.

UKIP however, have grown very much away from the single issue that I will admit they once stood for, and are interested in a much broader domestic policy now, with issues that are just as important if not more important than green matters.

The greens are like UKIP they have no power.

Yes they have a few seats in parliament but they can't stop anything the government want to do.

Although I will vote UKIP I hope the greens win more seats also.

The more MPs outside of the big two the better.

I still wonder what my MP [conservative] does beside collect his salary and expenses I have yet to see him speak.

As another UKIP supporter, I too respect your views and by the way, you have shown that it is possible to raise some issues without being insulting, so thank you for that.

I suppose that the Greens in the UK have not got their message across because many see green policies as costing them money by way of levy's and expensive ways of getting energy.

I was put off because of the lack of understanding in regards to the global carbon emission issue. We in the UK have lost a lot of our manufacturing because the EU emissions targets made continuation in some fields too expensive. We lost a lot of production to the far east, and I am sure you are aware that there are virtually no controls in China or India when it comes to what they spew into the atmosphere.

We would be doing the environment more good if we kept the manufacturing here under our own rules which are pretty stringent but affordable, not under the EU rules which are frankly too restrictive.

It is also worth remembering that not only do we have goods mass produced with no regulation in green terms, in India and China, but we add to the carbon footprint even more by having to ship the products half way around the world in order to use them.

Global warming is an issue and we do have a responsibility to future generations to get a grip on the damage that we as a species are doing to the planet, but this has to be balanced and of course affordable. Until we can come up with a single damage free method of generating energy, we should be looking to use the best methods possible, and I am pretty certain that Nuclear should be in the mix.

    Have a nice day.
