tital and rank of school staff? UK?

Hi =)

What are all the titles of school staff in order from headmaster/mistress right down to supporting teachers in UK schools. I cannot find any lists on websites and the only ones I know are (in order) headmaster, year head, subject head and regular staff. What would you call the second In command after the head and anyone above the ones I mentioned? I need it for a Harry Potter fanfiction I'm writing.

Thank you in advanced =)

    What would you call the second In command...Deputy Head

    But it really depends on the type of school, some schools use Master, rather than Head Teacher, at my school it was The Dean and now some schools have Managers and all schools have Boards of Governors, who make decisions on running and overall spending and management of the school and there are the senior pupils some of which are prefects or year/class/colour prepresentatives ( my school was split into 4 "houses" each given a name and colour, mine was blue and Belgrave) and each house had a representative teacher and senior pupil and one representative from each 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th years class who made met and made recommendations for the whole of Belgrave/Blue in lots of things, then with other representatives of the other "houses" discussed those recommendations and jointly made decisions on things like summer uniform/winter uniform

  • I'll list all the terms in order of rank (highest to lowest) and then I'll put examples of characters who held each position during the series:

    - Headmaster/Headmistress (Albus Dumbledore)

    - Deputy headmaster/headmistress (Minerva McGonagall)

    - Head of house (Severus Snape, Filius Flitwick, Pomona Sprout, Minerva McGonagall)

    - Teacher/Professor (Aurora Sinistra, Cuthbert Binns, Gilderoy Lockhart, Sybil Trelawney)

    Witches who work at the school but do not hold full teaching positions are often referred to as "Madam" (Irma Pince, Rolanda Hooch, Poppy Pomfrey). There doesn't seem to be a proper term for wizards who work at the school, but I presume they would be referred to as "Sir" out of politeness (Argus Filch, Rubeus Hagrid).

    I also thought I should add that it would be rare for someone to be able to 'jump' a position - for example, to be promoted directly from "Head of House" to "Headmaster/Headmistress" without first assuming the position of "Deputy Headmaster/Headmistress". This unusual move happens to Snape in Deathly Hallows but as Voldemort was pulling all the strings, I don't know if it counts as a real promotion!

    Headteacher/Principal

    Deputy Headteacher/Principal - my school had 3

    Head of Year - 7 in total

    The Pupils address them ALL as Sir or Miss when in school. When you meet them in the street it is Mr, Mrs or Miss (whatever their surname is).
