Currently saving for a down payment on a car, I've got a few in mind. Thoughts on any of them?

BMW 335i coupe (07 and newer)

Chevrolet Camaro SS (2010 and newer)

Ford Mustang GT (07 and newer)

Nissan 350Z (07 and newer)

Infiniti G37S (09 and newer)

I'm aware that gas, insurance, and repairs will be costly, but any other thoughts from owners, people who have driven them, etc? thank you

Not too many thoughts really. The cars in stock form are mostly comparable performance wise and it will really come down to which you like driving the most. From a modifications stand point the Camaro and Mustang will be the cheapest and easiest to modify. The BMW 335 is mod friendly but more expensive to do so. The Nissan and Infiniti are built on the same platform but the performance edge lies with the the

Interiors in the BMW and Nissan/Infiniti will be nicer and of better materials than in the Ford and Chevy. Cost of maintenance over time will be highest on the BMW, and least on the American cars. Nissan once again, fairly fuss free. I personally do not like the way the Nissan/Infiniti's sound, but I'm not buying these cars, you are.

So get your insurance quotes to budget that portion out, take a look at tire costs for the cars as well, then drive em and buy what you like and suits you best.

My family have owned a lot of BMWs. And we love them.

If you are planning to get a 335i I must say get the ones from 2009 if you can coz its much more younger car and with the LCI update it looks newer than the 07. Also the 2009 335i has a revised cylinder head, revised HPFP, injectors and ECU map.which is better than the 2007.

The 335i consumes a lot of fuel though but it returns a fantastic drive giving you 300hp. Also a 335 with M-sport package is a nice deal too.

Maintenance on the BMW is not that expensive. An oil change for fully synthetic with a new filter is only $90-$150 (depending on the shop) and it has a on board computer that tells you when to for maintenance.

Brake pads are $250-$350 a set for 335i

Engine air filter are $50 bucks

Spark plugs usually around $150 for the set of 6 (replace at 100,000kms)

    Brake fluid replace around $150

Engine coolant replace around $150 (recommended to change to save your electronic cooling pump)

ATF - is lifetime fill. (recommend to replace at 200,000 kms)

Power steering fluid is lifetime fill (recommend to replace at 150,000kms)

Tires are a bit expensive as RFT are the one you should be using. $800/set of 4

Owning a BMW is not that expensive. just maintain the car and it keeps going like any other car.

The camaro and the mustang are great cars, They look fantastic but im not just into them. The G37 and the 370z is a great contender as well but I have to say, if its my money its a BMW 335 than the G37. G37's are just there to fill a market gap for Nissan to compete with the Germans. Yes, the G37 may be cheaper to maintain but, When I buy something, I buy something that has heritage, great design, passion and engineering. That is why my family has always been in the German marques.

Good luck with your 335i. Btw, check out a 535i. its a great saloon if you have a family.

    Cheers,

    Sofie

Never use credit to buy a depreciating asset like a car. Only financial idiots, and there are many, do this. Buy what you can pay cash for and keep driving it as long as it casts a shadow.
