    What the heck are sidelights?

As I indicated in your other (newer) question - if it was imported by Harley Davidson it is an International spec model. It should already meet ALL requirements for the country imported to.

Put everything back the way it was.

The front directionals are dual-purpose and dual filament. They are on as marker lights whenever the ignition is "On". They flash brighter when used as directionals. They are off in all other ignition switch positions. The tail lamp is on when ignition is on. Rear lights are directionals only.

If you wish to use the rear directionals as marker lights, HD has plug-in modules to accomplish this. There are aftermarket versions as well.

As I noted earlier, HD Service and Electrical manuals have detailed electrical diagrams for both U.S and International models. (Mine are not at this location and may be different from yours. My Superglide is an '06)

Put the blue wires back as they were and use the orange wire to power your running lights .

This problem is due to the lack of a switch!

On a motor bike, an earth wire is seldom used, so only one wire to each circit, or light.

To controle these circits, there must be a switch. Most circits use the ignition switch, but not lights.
