Wisdom Teeth Removal ?

If only the lower wisdom teeth are improperly growing and have to be removed then...

1) Do we have to remove all the 4 wisdom teeth?

2) Do we have to undergo general anesthesia or we can ask dentist for local anesthesia.

3) How painful is it? A weeks rest is fine?

You do not have to go under general anesthesia and you do not have to have all 4 removed, but:

    1. If the teeth are impacted (growing improperly and caught on bone), there will be a lot of grinding and cracking and prying that MAY make it impossible to get you relaxed and sedated enough to do awake.

    2. The top teeth can and usually grow down into the space where the lowers were screwing up the bite and leading you to bite your cheeks, if they are erupted. This can take a year to decades.

    3. Yes, a week's rest is fine.

Wisdom teeth that are not posing a problem do not need to be removed.

I had my wisdom teeth out under local anaesthetic.

It ached for a week or so afterwards (just a dull ache) and the removal site remains tender for a couple of weeks. I did not take time off work and I ate normal food after a day or so.... very carefully.

People make a lot of fuss about wisdom teeth but it is not the worst thing to have done.

A little info I think should be considered about this drug Versed ( Midazolam ) that is used for Sedation for many medical procedures..Sedation and General Anesthesia are not the same and quite a few people being given Sedation

think they are being given General Anesthesia!

There is simply no good or valid reason to ever purposely induce amnesia during a medical procedure. It is only a recent development in medical thinking that amnesia is somehow a "benefit" to the patient. On occasion some

some patients will remember a bad experience. Forgetting does not mean it did not happen!!

I feel that if people were aware of the effects of this drug they would Opt For Another Drug!

Erasing someones memory of what was done to them is wrong!!

In fact, many people who use Versed for " IV Sedation,Conscious Sedation" Twilight Sedation, during a procedure are Awake For The Entire Procedure but remember nothing, often Believing They Were "Out" the whole time.

Versed (Midazolam) is an amnestic. It is also commonly used for minor procedures like setting broken bones, colonoscopies, endoscopies, dental procedures like extractions, conscious sedation, twilight sleep, so that patients won't remember pain and discomfort.HOWEVER THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT THOSE SENSATIONS WILL NOT BE EXPERIENCED!!!!

Here is a note from a Dentist Who uses Versed

I've used Versed 1000+ times during oral surgery procedures and I've never had a complaint. It's a miracle drug because it is safe and it causes you to not remember an unpleasant experience. My answer to him is isn't it better to have not experienced the pain than to have forgot it. No wonder you have had no complaints they have no memory of the procedure.....

I feel that giving a drug for amnesia is cruel I would not want it done to me!

A strange development in medical thinking that it's okay for a patient to have

pain as long as they don't remember it and think they slept thru the procedure..

Wait until its completely healed especially if you don't use a condom for oral sex. It's fairly common for foodstuffs to get lodged in tooth sockets after extraction and cause infection, so it wouldnt really be nice to have semen floating around in there either! Seriously, It's not adviseable to have oral sex with any kind of cut or lesion in your mouth, so wait until your completely healed up before you attempt to give any oral sex.... I have to say though, I do like the token idea of recieving for a while instead... maybe try that and enjoy yourself whilst you heal!
