Raising rent?

My parents want to raise the rent for their tenants. They are tenants at will and my parents live in the same house. Is there a limit as to how much they can add to the rent? For example if it were $1000 could they raise it to $1200 or $1300 or can it only be in increments of up to $100? We live in Boston, MA. Thanks.

Unless you're in a rent controlled district there is no limit to rent increases. However if you increase to the point the rent is higher than comparable properties you could loose the tenant.

You can charge as much as your tenants are willing to pay. They have the option to move out if they don't like your rent increases.

There is no MA law limiting the increase.
