What camera should I buy?

I want something that's portable, doesn't need film or anything like that, can film like mini clips or movies even and takes excellent pictures. I really only want digital. I want to create a YouTube channel and I have many projects for homemade movies. Also I just want a nice camera that's portable so that I can take great pictures.

Does anyone have any suggestions? It doesn't have to be cheap but please don't suggest $2,000 cameras. I'm willing to pay anything under $200. Maybe $300 if you can sell me.

Check out the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX350 or the Canon Powershot S110.

The S110 has an advantage in image quality because shoot RAW and JPEGs, while the WX350 shoots jpegs only. RAW makes a huge difference in the overall tonality of the image and has an even larger advantage when editing the pictures as it has much more data in the file vs all jpegs.

The S110 has a modest zoom which may appear to be negative, but it's because it doesn't have a super zoom like 20x or 50x, that the lens is actually much sharper. It also has lens that allows in more than double the amount of the Sony. Here's a comparison of the different models recommended so far: http://www.dpreview.com/products/compare/side-by-s...

The Fujifilm s4800 has the advantage that it's the only one that has a viewfinder allowing you to see exactly what the sensor sees. So using filters is far easier. The disadvantage to the S4800 and WX350 is that they only shoot in JPEG mode and not RAW. This means that you have very little room for adjusting the exposure on your computer, and absolutely no ability to adjust when things go wrong like when you white balance was inadvertently set for fluorescent and you're shooting under a differ type of lighting. The number of tones that are recorded in RAW is vastly larger than JPEGs (All jpegs are fixed 256 tones from white to black, while RAW files from the cameras in your price range have anywhere from 1,024 - 4,096 tones, and up to 16,384 in DSLRs and other more advanced cameras).

Compared to the others, the S4800 and WX350 have lenses that allow the least amount of light through - about 2.5x less in fact. At a meager 230,000 dpi, the S4800 has the worst LCD screen of just about any camera on the market today. At 1.2 fps, the S4800 is also the slowest camera too. However don't be fooled by the 10fps on other cameras, because those numbers are when you are in single-focus mode. Try to track the movement of something at that number plummets to S4800 levels.

However, no camera can touch the length of the lens on the S4800 - sure it's length causes it to be less sharp, but take a look at sample shots at dpreview.com and see if the image quality is good enough for you. Personally, as you've probably guessed, I'd skip it for a camera that shoots raw and has modest, sharper, clearer, lens.

The camera for you is the Fujifilm S4800. Not only does it have the camera controls for when you are ready, but it can shoot in fully automatic mode for now. It has what I consider an essential feature that many other cameras don’t have and that is a viewfinder. Plus it shoots HD video. And all this for around $150.

At that budget look for a little Nikon P330 or P340 compact.

BUT, as video seems to be your major interest, why not get a $300 video camera which is built for the job rather than just having video as an add-on?

Sounds like you need a camcorder. Have a look at any of the Sony, Canon or Panasonic camcorders. There's sure to be one to fit your budget. There is absolutely no reason to go to the extra expense of buying a stills camera unless you intend to take photographs.

The Sony RX100 is small (and thus portable) and has very good image and video quality for a camera of its class and size.

Where I live, a used one will run you around 250 dollars or thereabouts.

I definitely think it won't hurt to have a look at that one.
