What messenger did people use around 2008?

Me and my aunt have been trying to remember this messenger that everybody used to use back in 2008 and I remember there being a popular messenger people used to chat with each other back in 2008, does anybody remember the name of it?

I tried looking it up and found Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo Messenger, but I don't think that's it. Please and thank you for helping! :)
