Is maintenance on a 2000-2004 Porsche 911 too expensive? Am I getting in a very expensive maintenance car?
I see them online for around $13000, so just curious if I am gonna be getting into a real headache!
Are these cars lemons?

$12,000 is approx the cost to rebuild an engine for one of those, and that's something that it may need.
By comparison a rebuild 350 Chevy is maybe $3,000
So there are 2 things you can be sure of. It's going to start wearing out after maybe 15 years, and it's going to cost a fortune to repair. This is why those old Porsches come up for sale so cheap.

A friend of mine has an early 2000s 911. He reports a brake job on 4 wheels was $2200. An engine routine maintenance was $1400. And so on. The conclusion is that they are 2 to 4 times more costly to service that say a Mustang.

"Too expensive" is a relative term.
Certainly, the cost of parts and maintenance on ANY German-made car may be more than your run-of-the-mill Nissan, Hyundai, or Toyota. But at best, those are everyday, everywhere, dull cars, aren't they? Look at it this way: you get what you pay for.

Most likely. The price may be cheap.. but the parts and labour are priced for $100,000+ cars. Lots of times the sale prices of these exotics plummet because you'll have to pay the purchase price in maintenance in the next couple of years.

Yes you are, and it's a risky buy because the 996 Porsche has a potentially serious engine defect--the IMS bearing. There's a reason they are so cheap you know.

Assuming the engine is good, expect to pay $2000 per year on regular maintenance.

I feel ya, I have 8 Mercedes and they are a pain in the butt. The nicer cars, are nice, but they require maintenance, all of them do from time to time

This version of the 911 is known to have IMS bearing failure. If yours goes expect to pay 15-18k in fixes. The turbo model doesn't have this problem.

Yes. Spares will cost more than the car.
