What's a good job for someone with an Anxiety Disorder?
I've been having this anxiety disorder since I was little, but have always thought it was just shyness. It wasn't until late last year that I realized I had an anxiety disorder. I really need a job, but when I got my first job it was too much for me and I had to quit after 2 weeks; it was at a Wal-mart and that's when I realized I had an anxiety disorder.
What are some jobs that'd be good for someone with anxiety disorder? I experience self-doubt, perfectionism, flashbacks, panic, self-consciousness, Stage Fright, Chronic Indigestion, Muscle Tension, Irritational Fear, sleep problems, and excessive worry on a daily basis; what jobs could possibly be good for me?

I guess my advice would just to be careful. I know what it's like to have anxiety and then try and function in an environment where you deal with a lot of people- incredibly stressful. That exposure though is also really nice, because anxiety tends to fester and get worse the less you interact, so you need to find a balance. You love English lit- there's a lot of low interaction jobs. You can be an editor, a critic, a journalist, a novelist; loads of jobs within publishing companies where you work in a small office and have limited interaction. You could be a grade school teacher, if you tend to find being around children less stressful than being around adults or teens.

If you have not been diagnosed with an Anxiety Disorder, you need to see a psychiatrist or therapist.
They can either give you something to help treat your anxiety, or they can address what is REALLY wrong (which could be anything from OCD to something else).
If you are overwhelmed with any type of anxiety, it's difficult to do a job at all. If that's the case, you might qualify for Disability Insurance through Social Security.
Perfectionism (while to a perfectionist isn't a problem) is often a problem in the workplace and other places, because we are unwilling to delegate to people with a different sense of perfectionism.
For me, I found proofreading and copyediting to fit in with my types of issues, but my anxiety doesn't keep me from interacting intelligently (and politely and comfortably) with other people.
Since my disability, I'm less likely to spend the time and extreme effort to be a perfectionist, because I realized the only one who really cared, was me.
Also, my intent was to say that IF you actually have a diagnosis of Anxiety Disorder, you can request certain "Accommodations" from employers to make you more comfortable.
Without that diagnosis, you can't do anything about it.
