    Are the police in any city doing anything about purse snatchers?

    what would you like them to do? Hold your purse for you, while you sight see. ?

    you should sell out your purse and use the money go to patrol school. then you can protect your purse form the snatchers $^%*

    They could have CCTV on the trains and platforms and rail police - we do in the Uk - they could always include the station in their patrols even if it only to get a donut.

    What can they do?

    All you can do yourself is make sure you don't have any valuables in there, or much cash, and keep your bag tucked up firmly under your arm.
