I have a chronic problem with sleep. It is not insomnia, but rather more complex than that. I stay up late and do not get enough sleep..?

I have taken melatonin but it became ineffective in time. I exercise and am a well- educated male in my early fifties. I am a teacher, but I work overseas and do not have the early hours that U.S. teachers have. I recently read that not drinking coffee after 5:00 PM is helpful. I wish I could go to sleep whenever I wanted. Does anyone have any advice for me?
