Why does an overbite make having braces a much longer process?

So I have straight teeth but small gaps between them and then I have an overbite which is causing me to have braces for 2-4 years. I'm getting braces in 3 days

It's just an estimate and doesn't necessarily mean you will need braces for an absurd amount of time, 2 years may only become 18 months if you do what you need to and your case progresses quick.

It's pretty likely though that if any other bite problem where as severe it would also lengthen treatment time the same as an overbite
