The people who vote on the winners (Hollywood Foreign Press Association) get to view the movie long before the official release. That's how to screener for The Hateful Eight was leaked, someone who had access to the screener leaked it. A screener is a copy of the movie for evaluation for critics and for people in the academy

The Golden Globe Awards are awarded in January for movies released in the previous calendar year, so the movies are ALWAYS seen before the awards are given.
