Perished fuel line ?
My petrol strimmer won't start - carburettor not priming. I found the black fuel feed line has gone all soft inside the petrol tank. The return line is clear plastic, I'm not sure if the feed line is plastic or rubber.
Am I mistaken in thinking that the black tubing is poor quality, and that I should replace both lines with clear plastic tubing ?

The feed line is the black rubber one, it's longer than the vinyl one and has a weighted fuel filter on the end to keep itself immersed (in fuel) even when tipped upside down.
Both lines deteriorate with age and should be replaced, along with the fuel tank grommets, with factory original parts, if at all possible.
Use the make and model number when replacing parts .
Most lawn mower repair shops will carry, or can order the correct parts, or there are online sources to do the same.

I would replace with the same as the original. I think it's rubber to improve pickup during movement.
