Cooker hood installed properly ?
Our kitchen was refurbished, and the cooker had a hood installed on the outer wall, with stainless steel outlet and a hole in the external wall. But the steel pipe was left open at the end, and the exit hole is only half the size of the steel flue. Much of the exhaust air from the gas stove comes back into the room instead of going outside. Am I right in thinking that this installation was not done properly ? It's 5 years old and I'm wondering if we have a claim ?
I mean a claim for the installation, not for the hood itself, which is ok.
The hood has a powerful fan which is working.
I get it that the hood is well out of warranty, but I think the installation was not done properly, so the extraction has NEVER been OK even though the hood works. Is there anyone out there who actually installs ducting, and can tell me if this is a bad installation or not ?

Five years is probably too long to wait to try and claim for improper installation. In most cases, the equipment (the hood) is warrantied for 2-5 years, but the work done by any trained electrician or renovation expert is only guaranteed for 30-60 days. If you are lucky, maybe a year.
What you need to do is correct the exterior wall exhaust hole. Get someone to size the hole correctly and then install the appropriate cover so no squirrels or birds decide to make their home inside the hole.

No claim possible, just really bad workmanship. Have someone come out and enlarge the hole and finish the pipe out through the wall with the proper termination cap on the end of the pipe outside. There is probably a wall stud or something else close to the hole, the previous installer probably just didn't want to mess with doing it correctly.

after 5 yrs no warranty. To get it to work right it needs to be removed and the pipe fixed to the right size.
