I ve noticed through the years that strike anywhere matches have gotten hard to find. They used to be pretty ubiquitous but I haven t seen any in any grocery store or even the hardware store. Everything is strike on box only. The strike anywhere were perfect for camping. You could strike them on a rock. Now with the strike on box stuff I actually have to keep the sandpaper portion of the box with them, otherwise you re pretty dead in the water without that. I can t remember the last time I saw any. Why so hard to find?

Sometimes you can find them in rural stores or camping supply stores but they are not as abundant as they used to be.

They "discovered" something we've all known for decades. The white tip of the strike anywhere matches, when removed and carefully ground into a powder become an impact explosive. Hence, they removed the product from the shelves and have replaced the chemical used for the white tip to something less volatile. You can still find the strike anywhere matches, but they aren't the same as they used to be.
