Since I couldn't change how I rated your answer - I'm trying to make up for it by answering a few of your questions and hopefully you get more points that way.

In my own opinion, a song is timeless maybe because of the lyrics but more so because of that time you heard it and the memories that follow you with the song. I believe it truly is based on an individual level and varies from person to person. The song you found for me? Reminds me of hanging out with my mom making candy as a little girl and that means more to me than the original meaning of the song. That is what I cherish the most, Thank you.

It's not opinion, it's a question of time.

If you can take a song that was recorded 20 or 30 years ago, play it at full volume today and have people yell "yeah, turn it up", that's a timeless song. Anything less is simply not timeless, end of debate.

Elvis knows what I'm talking about. So do Mick and Keith, Ozzy, Bonno, Run DMC, Chuck Berry, Hendrix, Sinatra, Dolly, and Angus & Malcolm.

Kanye and Beebz, however, will probably not know what I'm saying.

    fame.

i honestly don't think there is anything musically and lyrically that unites, for instance, beethoven's 5th with keep on the sunny side with stairway to heaven other than fame. similarly, i don't think there is anything that separates these works from more obscure contemporary works other than fame. fame is self perpetuating, we are burdened with these pieces as a cultural literacy, and not knowing them is to not be fully engaged in the culture. and so each generation learns them and insists that their children are aware of them and so on and so forth.
