What should I do about my job situation?

When I first started my current job, they gave me a position on the management team for this retail company. I excelled really well and my boss was always telling me if I wanted further opportunities and complimented me a lot. For months I was working full time hours with no benefits. Finally they gave me benefits.

Then the holidays came and we had a conversation about me becoming an assistant manager with the company and he told me to email the district manager about my interest. I did and the DM was surprised? Let time pass and I confronted my boss again and said the DM never replied to when I wanted to meet. He then said I could email her again but not yet? He said he would talk more about the position more with me first. He said we are going to hire the best candidate we see fit.

Suddenly one day, he hired someone as an assistant manager and I never got a chance to even interview. For some reason too, the DM does not like me. She visited our store one day and I was nice and everything and she said I lacked energy for the store but I was just nervous that day. Since then, any email I send out is ignored by her like a good sale I've done. She only replies to everyone else.

What should I do about this? Even the new assistant asked me why they didn't pick me?

2 choices. Keep working and doing a good job and eventually you will get promoted.

    Or find another job.

I got promoted when my boss told the DM about me. Then I got promoted again when they fired the manager because I had been around the longest and I was smart. When I became manager, I could hire my own assistant managers although my boss gave me one.

My DM did not force anyone on me and I turned down one girl.

Generally, longevity will get you promoted...eventually.

One of my assistants was so good I kept bragging about him to my boss and he got his own store.

    Cream rises to the top.

Maybe the DM considers you too young?

You can't be an assistant manager at this company. Either do nothing and stay in your current job, or quit and get a job somewhere else.

i would just be thankful you have the job and if shes going to treat you that way you're better off not working with her

Nothing to "do" except be the best employee you can........no way to know why someone else was chosen..........and as for the benefits - not all companies offer them so be very thankful
