PWM in a UPS system? Can you please explain more.?

Also, what type of filter do we need to include in the design to make the output waveform into a Sine waveform?

See this app note. It will give you an idea of what is involved. If you want a sine wave output, you need to use a PWM of some sort and a LC low-pass filter. You can use the transformer leakage inductance to provide the LPF inductor.

The PWM is there to allow the UPS to accept varying mains voltages. To get a sine wave from any other wave shape an inductor is often used, this may be a transformer.
