The Wiimote utilized Bluetooth v3 for it's communications between the Wii & itself (this was upgraded to v4 with the Wii U for the increased bandwidth so video could supported).

Bluetooth is a short-range wireless signal that only travels up to 60 feet & runs at a frequency of roughly 2.4 Ghz.
