Why is it that Democratic Presidents seem smarter than normal people but Republican Presidents seem dumber than normal people?

The American culture has a very unfortunate streak of 'anti-intellectualism'. We tend not to trust anyone who really seems to know what he's talking about! We are intimidated by someone who is smarter than we are.

The Republicans have used this tendency in their politics. Every Democratic presidential candidate I can remember--back to the 1950s!--has been criticized by the Republicans for being somehow 'too smart', and therefore not to be trusted. The Republicans go more by feelings, emotions, attitudes. GW Bush was the man everyone wanted to have a beer with. Trump was the firebrand who was going to Change Everything even though he was incessantly caught in lies and clearly had no idea how to do ANYTHING. Both of them, their big draw was 'Vote for me, 'cos I'm just as dumb and ignorant as YOU!'

Because Democratic Presidents are smarter than normal people but Republican Presidents are dumber than normal people.

One party is all about appearances.

The other gets real things done.

Just becaues it "Seems" like something, doesn't mean that it actually is what it seems to be.

This really nice car seems like no one has ever droven it before. But fact is, someone had and the motor is completely shot.
