Muddy had a distinctive voice and he wrote a large portion of "the blues" at the time (as Mckinley Morganfield) i was going to say that Buddy Guy maybe comes the closest in sound. I'll add to the list Keb Mo, too.

You like Muddy Waters, eh? I would say check out some John Lee Hooker, Howlin' Wolf, Buddy Guy, Jonny Lang (he's more contemporary), Bobby "Blue" Bland, Sonny Boy Williamson, maybe some Big Mama Thornton or Koko Taylor.

There's plenty of blues out there.
