Why do some scientists still get married?

Knowing why you are horny does not mean that you can stop yourself from being horny. The body produces chemicals that encourage the person to reproduce and rewards that person with feelings of pleasure after he/she does it. The body does this as a result of millions of years of evolution and natural selection. The body triumphs over the mind in most cases. Of course, some people who get married may choose not to have children. Sometimes the mind can triumph over evolution.

Curiously, there are people who do not get married because of religion, not science. Even so, many of these same people still cannot triumph over their body. Chemicals in their bodies often make these people have sex even after they swear to an oath of celibacy. Priests, monks and nuns still have sex drives, and they often have sex, and sometimes they even rape adults and children.

They have a life.

People have a life too you know.

I certainly understand why a (female) scientist would not want to marry someone like you.

Very same reason other humans marry. Just that simple.

A human social thing. a bonding between male and female, goes beyond just instinct to propagate species.

Most scientists aren't that smart IMO and most are like everyone else. My dad, who dropped out of the 8th grade was smarter than most of my "scientist" classmates. Scientists get married because it is usually better than the alternative. They have relationships because it is better than the alternative. They choose to live because it is better than the alternative. Dying sucks and so does going through your life alone.

Actually what we scientifically know is that love and reproductive behaviours in humans are much more complex than just an automatic reaction to one molecule, that we observe a smooth gradient of complexity when going from more "elementary" reflex-driven animals to more "complex" and brain-driven animals, and that this increased complexity eventually gets a huge cultural component.

Love is not just chemicals to ensure reproduction. That's lust, the dopamine pathway. Long term love is largely the cannabinoid receptors being 'satisfied'.

That doesn't change anything.
