Toronto to vancouver by car without entering the U.S.?

The Trans-Canada HWY goes from one end of Canada to the other. If you have a GPS in your car, you can find points of interest along the way. Also pick up maps of the different provinces just in case you decide to go off the hwy to check out interesting areas, This will also help you to get back to the main road. 

Just take the Trans-Canada. I've done it both ways, and the Canadian route is far prettier, and not as crowded. It isn't really any longer either, despite what Google says.

You can add Thunder Bay, ON to the route in the middle (Vancouver to Thunder Bay to Toronto). This'll make Google Maps keep the whole route in Canada. You'd have to pass through there anyways when following the Trans Canada Highway route.

You just drive along the TransCan until you get there. Google is showing the most direct route.

Get into maps.google.com and ask for directions from Toronto to Vancouver.  It shows you the shortest route, which is through the US.

Now 'grab' the route (the blue line) with your mouse and drag it up into Canada.  Grab it around the middle of Montana and drag it to Regina (Regina is somewhat to the east, but that doesn't matter).  Now grab it around Chicago and drag it to the north shore of Lake Superior.  And voila!  You have a route completely through Canada.

The other way to do it is to route through several points in Canada to another.  Toronto to Sudbury to Thunder Bay, etc.

Driving across the middle of Canada is like crossing an ocean.  You're out in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by wheat or rapeseed or whatever, and all you can see is a tiny dot on the horizon.  When you reach this dot, it's a small town with a grain elevator, a general store, and a gas station.  You fill up and head the car west towards another little dot on the horizon.  This goes on for days and days!  You get an idea of how amazingly VAST Canada is.  (The US is only half-vast.)
