Why are South Korea and Japan so safe compared to other Asian countries?

I went to Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Laos too and they were dangerous but in Japan and South Korea, we could safely walk on the street even at 2am.

Japan has a very low crime rate largely because there's a very even standard of living. Even manual labor jobs pay well. So there are not a lot poor, desperate people. Having an even standard of living is the best insurance against crime. The same is true in the Scandanavian countries.

Both Nippon and South Korea are Military Bases for Imperial United States Government Forces.

The Local police have to be on guard for the US Forces trouble makers (Rapists, Thieves, Murderers) since the U.S. Government spirits them away when they step out of line to prevent "news". Such careful patrolling means their own crime is also suppressed. Don't want to chase away the tourists.
