Take a close look at one and you will soon see why.

For example, their Outlander has a rear seat folding mechanism which is so flimsy and nasty to use it feels like it was pulled out if a cheap Christmas Cracker. Many of the interior plastics below the eyeline are made of plastics which are hard and cheap-feeling. Their model range in general has paint-quality every bit as bad as Mazda (lots or orange-peel effect) and they are generally every bit as unreliable as Nissan has become. The cost-cutting nasty bite and the unreliability are even more likely to worsen now that Renault own them; that’s also what took a steaming crap on Nissan’s quality and reliability when Renault took a controlling stake.

Mitsubishi aren’t awful, they’re just nowhere near as good as the best Japanese brands, and they’re also not THAT much cheaper. The pitfalls also make ownership expensive because they depreciate in value quite heavily compared to better brands.

Because most people know they don't last and repairs are frequent. Those long warranties are nothing but a sign of desperation.

Audi, B.M.W. and Mercedes-Benz have so much commercial value that people assume they are worth the extra money. In reality the engines have billions of pounds of engineering behind it but the rest of the car is just like any other car.

You don't see Toyota or Honda offering long warranties, because they can easily sell every car they build, AND you don't NEED a long warranty with those cars.

Why do you think? They are cutting corners somewhere, most likely in quality.

BECAUSE YOU HAVE ENOUGH MONEY FOR THEM TO BE AFFORDABLE. THEY'RE NOT AFFORDABLE FOR MANY PEOPLE.

In the past ten years, they've been known to have serious transmission problems before 100,000 miles. Most Japanese cars don't have that issue if you perform regular maintenance and don't abuse them.
