For those saying it originated in the Southern US, you are wrong. BlueGRASS and country music originated there, because America is white as a ghost.

Quebec us the blackest place in North America. Montreal is the city of the blues!

Fun fact: Every black blues musician came from Quebec in Canada.

Partly from Acadian/Cajun music.

It originated in the delta regions of the south during the 20's and 30's. It was called Delta Blues during this time. After World War II, these bluesmen migrated north (Chicago) with the start of  the "electric" blues movement as electric guitars started to be manufactured.
