HEB is known for their combo locos -

Take advantage of such promotions IF both or more items are things you actually need.

If not focus on store brand when the national brand isn't cheaper even with a coupon.

Also look in the clearance section at both places.

If you have your debit card from us ( tax payers ) you don't need to save any money since the food you'll get is being paid by the tax payers.

I frankly don t know,I ve never cared about saving,I  don t spend my money on junk,so I stay away from generic brands,as you don t get the same taste and ingredients as the brand names.

If you want to save,I d say buy less, but buy quality, for Pete's sake, stay away from cheap stuff.

If going to such places, unless cheaper with coupon, buy store brand (HCF or Great Value),

also don't be ashamed of looking in the clearance section - if something you'll use before it goes bad. Also consider dollar stores for things like canned peaches, razors, shampoo, etc.

Try Aldi and Save A Lot.

Buy fruit and vegetables at a farmers market.

Stock up on h-e-b specials. $1 pork, $2 boneless chicken breasts, $1 breasts. Watch Walmart. We bought so much 30 cent / loaf bread last year, I did not even use my bread machine. They had overbaked or overstocked baugettes almost every week. Bread freezes well.

Coupons. Time consuming but can save you money.  Read ads and see what is in sale each week. Shop different stores.  looking at ads I can sometimes get lower prices on items at my big main grocery store. You can find good deals at Aldi.

After reading ads. Plan out your meals and write lists. Stick to your list.  If chicken is on sale , plan chicken for dinner.
