Technology in cars is always on the increase and always has been, so that is the trend you are asking about. . 

The trend seems to be more, more, more, regardless of how much some new technologies might distract a driver from the task of actually driving, and then mark up each new "feature" by some percentage so that the manufacturer profits from all the added stuff that you may or may not even want or need. 

Automotive technology will always trend forward, whether it's for the better, can sometimes be debated.
