    Without context, this seems an impossible question. One common form of recognition is acknowledgement, but, in another context, it could be citation or awarding. Those are two examples of why the context matters.

    The second meaning is to acknowledge or validate the existence of something or someone.  "In recognition of your accomplishment, we award you this medal."
