Sure, if you don't mind loosing a tire, dropping a mufler or starting a grass fire.  A Suby will go anywhere anytime as good as any jeep, usually better.  Outback sits up higher than regular Legacy.  Forester sits up higher than Outback.  Go watch Subaru off-road on YouTube.  Seeing is believing.

Not as good as Jeeps and Land Rovers etc but they are pretty capable within the limits of their ground clearance.

Tyres play a big part too. The Outback with chunky mud and snow tyres would be better off road than a pimped yo Range Rover on 22in wheels and low profile tyres.

See YouTube to see how it goes.

Not as well as you would were you to buy the new Ford Bronco.

Off pavement, yes, but off road or primitive 4wd trails, not so much.

Define what your version of "off road" means. It is not a rock crawler/mud runner/mountain climber. It can handle fairly rough terrain compared to your average sedan, but it isn't a Jeep either. It has higher ground clearance than an average sedan (8" versus 4-5") and decent horsepower for its size.

I had a Forrester for 6 years. It went more on "two-track" type trails through the woods more than true off road, but it also got through places that your average sedan would never have had a chance.

    Yes.

If off-roading is something you're into, the Subaru WRX STI is somewhat better because it's what's used competitively in rallying. The WRX is what used to be called the Impreza Outback a few years back when Outback was still the name of an equipment package Subaru offered on all its models (e.g., Impreza, Forester, Legacy, etc.) but the Outback package got so popular on the Subaru Legacy that the name Outback became synonymous with the Subaru Legacy, so Subaru changed the name of the Legacy to Outback.

I say all this because I'm not sure what you mean by "Subaru Outback" since it means different things for different model years, like for the present model year, it refers to Subaru's full-size wagon, but for models more than a few years old, it refers to any Subaru model equipped with its off-road package. Either way, my "yes" answer stands, but it's a stronger "yes" if with "Outback" you're referring to an older model where "Outback" meant that the car was further equipped with special equipment making it even more adept for off-roading.

a little, if it has all wheel or 4 wheel drive. it's definitely not the best for off road.
