Why the hell they make me write essays to get a degree?This is high school kiddie stuff.?

Research papers aren't just about the writing, there's a whole lot of other things that go into completing papers at the college level and then into graduate programs. You are showing that you know how to research, that you know how to access information, that you know how to communicate clearly through writing, that you are able to collaborate, that you can take data/information and synthesize it and then show your comprehension. 

A college-educated man or woman should be able to write coherently whether it's an essay, a recommendation, a work presentation, a grant proposal, an email or a memo. If you can't do research, organize your thoughts or write well, maybe you don't belong in college. 

I don't know what field you plan to go into, but in my professional life experience, I've continually had to write memos, reports, and do research on topics of interest to the office.  Because I had developed writing expertise in college and grad school, I quickly developed a reputation as someone who wrote well.  I even was occasionally asked to edit the papers written by others.
