A question about overuse of social media platforms (please read below)?

Do you think that overuse of such things has the effect of deceiving users into thinking that everyone is following, everyone is paying attention, everyone knows them, everyone considers them important, everyone is lying in wait for their thoughts on some issue, etc?

Note: this is not an attack on whomever reads the question, just a general question.

Some people might get an overinflated idea of their popularity if they have a large social media presence. I mostly hear people saying the opposite. They compare it to real life. They think that someone else who has lots of pics of them partying with friends and going places, that they must have an exciting and perfect life. They think someone with more followers is more well liked. They think people have perfect lives because of what they see online. In reality, most people don’t post the bad stuff. Some people write pity posts though. They complain about how depressed they are and how sad their life is, and how they have no money and no friends. I think social media is mostly for people who are very self absorbed. Who the hell wants to see anyone take pics of their dinner, or hear about the errands they ran today? I don’t use social media at all. I haven’t posted anything in 5 years. It’s stupid, a waste of time, and only seems to create drama and problems. I really see no upside. Worst invention ever!
