At home. Movie theatres are too expensive, and at home I can press "pause" and take a break

I prefer watching a movie at home.

At home.  I used to like the theater, but Solo was the final straw for me.  And not just because the movie sucked, even though it did.

Their prices have been way too high for a long time, but then I had to sit through 30 minutes of corporate advertising before the movie began.  I have a simple rule:  If I just paid over $200 for admission and drinks & popcorn for my family to see a movie, there better not be any commercials.  If I'm expected to sit through commercials during a movie, that's called watching TV.

At home, I used to love going to the cinema though as a kid.

It depends. Usually I prefer sci-fi and action movies in the cinema (due to the technology on the big screen) and other genres at home.

It's best at home. I can pause if I need to go to the toilet. Rewind if I miss something. And put on subtitles when I can't understand the accent.

I used to love seeing some films on the big screen, but with the way theaters keep raising the costs, demanding higher and higher prices for concessions, and tell people they aren't allowed to defend themselves, while offering no security, I now just watch at home.  Food and drink are cheaper, and better quality, no worries about security issues, and I can pause, to miss nothing for potty breaks.  Bonus, no idjits on a cell phone, or taking loudly through the whole movie!  Cheaper, too, buying one than paying for tickets for the whole family.  With a large family, we could easily top $100 for admission and snacks.

I'd prefer watching movies in the cinema, at least once.  Some movies wouldn't be the same in any other venue.  Watched the movie "Gravity" in 3D, it felt like being there.  You can't get that from watching it on a TV or a smartphone.

In a movie theater. Nothing beats the surround sound and the big screen.

However, I've come to terms with the fact that theaters will have a greatly reduced role in the future.
