Should I let my horse do this?

So while riding my horse he will speed up into a fast shitty trot before cantering only on his left side and one more kick and he will canter but on the right side he doesn’t do this however. I let a friend ride him and she spent forever trying to get him to canter but every time he started the fast trot she made him slow down and do it again and justified it by saying I shouldn’t let him trot fast before cantering even though he’s my horse and I know he does it and how to get past it. Needless to say she was doing that forever and nothing changed she just ended up overworking him. Should I ignore her or try to get him to canter without trotting fast?

Tsar Nicolas 2nd was stopping the antichrist from coming to power. Once the tsar was removed, 70 million people in his country died in gulags or by disease or by famine or by shooting squads. Since 1917, antichrist's kingdom (worldwide communism) is building up. Soon WW3 will happen in order to ban religion; antichrist will claim that only he can make peace on the earth; deceived people will believe him (very sad story indeed).

Your friend is trying to correct your horse as everything you and he are doing is wrong, wrong, wrong.   A well trained horse picks up a canter at either lead straight from a walk and the best ones can do it from the stop.

Yes, he may have an injury that prevents him from taking the right lead but more likely he is just "left-sided", prefers it and you don't know how to cue him correctly.

Find a lesson instructor or trainer that will work with both of you together.  That's the only solution to your problem and this horse is exactly the kind that ends up in the kill pen for being improperly trained and ridden.

First, the horse needs to be vetted to rule out a physical problem.

IMO your friend is correct that you shouldn't let the horse do something you haven't asked for.   If you ask for a canter, you should get a canter, not a shiity fast trot.   But kicking until you get what you want isn't the solution.

Presuming there is nothing wrong with your horse, it sounds like you could benefit from a teacher who can work with you and your horse on collection and smooth transitions.    Does your horse collect?   And do you get him in the frame before you ask for the lope?

Have you tried working him from the ground?   Does he have a smooth transition from trot to lope (both leads) without a rider?

You might consider having the vet look at him to be sure there isn't any pain causing this. Otherwise, have a trainer work with him until he can perform this properly.
