Would you sell an 18 year old car for $100?

I inherited a well-maintained 2002 Honda Civic LX sedan in good working condition in my parents estate. I advertised it for sale for $2000. An man answered the ad with an offer of $100. I PMed him back and asked where he got that figure. He said it was worth $200 as scrap and he has to make double. Would you sell that car for $100?

Update:

It has between 130 and 135K miles on it. I can't remember the exact mileage.

Yes, sure.  I am still buying MUSCLE CARS from the 70's (original muscle cars) not the Mustang II or others that kept the name but dropped the big motors&4 speed trans.    I look at 25 year old cars.  They are all different. Some are excellent condition, some are destroyed after 3 years. Each owner maintains and drives their car differently.

He is fishing. Is he you first and only reply? Are you desperate to sell it?  I am gonna guess "Yes & No.".

, Selling cars is not instantaneous.  This is like "pole fishing in a creek"  The nibbler minnows come around to bite at the bait.    You can sit back and wait for a FISH to take notice and take the hook.  THAT IS THE FISH YOU ARE AFTER.  Not the minnows..  After all many of the people that scan the advertisements ARE USED CARLOTS.   If they get your car for $100 - you can be sure it will be advertised on their lot for $2900+Have you looked at advertisements(both private as well as lot sales) for cars of the same age?  What is the price they are asking?   .For one, you know he is not serious because he did not come out to see the car.   Serious buyers come out and look & check & have a mechanical check on the car right there and then(by bringing someone who is good with car repair and can spot obvious problems.  They are there to advise the possible buyer - telling him if the car has been in an accident or if the motor is hatch or if the car seems to be in good condition.

.  You could even go out and Look at the cars.(to see what the competition is offering)  EVERYONE IS COMPETITION & you get a general idea of car value in YOUR town.

NOT KBB "which is in fantasy land where they price their cars" where that is, I have no idea...but it ain't your town.

I do not even look at KBB.  I compare to my town or cities up to 300 miles away in the same state.  I don't have to see those...your car is in Immaculate condition. (I am assuming parents were not Drag racers)

$100 is giving it away.  You already know scrap metal will pay more...and it does not sound like scrap.

Buyers will ALWAYS offer LESS.  It is not like you can say the price is higher while negotiating.

. You can always go down some to sell it.  But that is through personal negotiations.

I realize it is nearly impossible right now so you got to MASK UP...or wait to sell the car later on whenever that will be.

If it is a "runner" it is worth $1000 automatically.

The first callers you basically can ignore especially when they are outrageously low.

An 18 old motorcycle that still runs is worth more than $100. If a running motorcycle that old is worth more than $100, then a car that old that still runs is DEFINITELY worth more than $100.

Of course not. A well maintained and reliable car, even that old, is worth at least $1,500. Plus, it's a Honda.

    Its is easily worth $2000

If the car still can be driven it's worth at least $700.

No--I would not sell it for $100 if the car ran, had good maintenance and was in decent shape. That's just TOO LOW.

    1. Depends on what kind of shape it is in.

    2. No, I would tell the guy to get lost, he is seriously low-balling you

Its old, its not a popular car around here where i live they are hard on roadworthy tests its one of those cars that if you got it for free by the time you register and roadworthy it then sell it, you still have a 50/50 chance of losing money along with the 3 months it takes to sell. For $100 Id take the boys out in the paddock for driving lessons and let them destroy it.

I would not.  Ask any amount you choose.

A photo to show it's not a wreck, either.

No. I have a 2004 Toyota that still runs like new. I would not take $5,000 for it. There is bound to be someone out there who would pay more.
