It 'rot' used more in fruits while 'spoil' used more on other food?

meat rots too and veggies can rot. I think the difference is more an idea of raw (unprepared) foods rot while prepared foods spoil.

"Rot" is used in reference to uncooked food. "Spoil" is used for prepared food which is beyond the safe period of eating it.

Perhaps. Rot is most likely in foods that are not processed. It need not be limited to fruits.

Rot is more of something negative and spoil gives you a chance to do something with it.
