Black eye, help? ?

I hit my eyebrow while trying to reach underneath my desk this morning so I iced it but it's still really swollen. At first I thought massaging the bump would even it out but yeah- not doing that again. I'm still icing it but I can barely open my eye with my fingers now with the swelling. Is there any other alternative way to heal my eye faster and how long might my eye be closed for?

I was also wondering if it was safe to put makeup on the swelling or would that further agitate it? I don't really know any other ways to hide it..

To take care of a black eye:

Apply a cold compress soon after the injury. ...

    Look for blood. ...

Seek medical care immediately if you have vision problems (double vision, blurring), severe pain, bruising around both eyes, or bleeding in an eye or from the nose.

    Apply warm-hot compresses.

There's not much you can do at this point. The bruising is from blood pooling under the skin. You can take aspirin to reduce swelling and apply a warm compress instead of cold. The heat will help disperse the blood that's congealed there. Makeup is totally optional, but imho, nothing's gonna hide a goose egg that size. Personally, I'd just go bare.

Unless that reddish area is a fresh open wound, you should be fine to put makeup on your eye but a warning- it might be painful to add it onto your injury + it's not gonna really eye a swollen shut eye... your eye might be closed for a couple days but that just means its healing

YEs, you can use makeup. Since your skin isn't broken, that won't hurt anything. But it's going to be black and blue for a while and no one is going to believe this story about the desk.
